2 Reviews of the Zephyros 3 Living

By: Bad back  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

Having used this tent for cycle camping with my wife for 20 nights over 4 trips I find it difficult to beat. Standing head room and the ability to put our small camping chairs inside during inclement weather is a big bonus. Thankfully we have not suffered any strong winds whilst pitched as I am not sure how well it will stand up to them. The second rear door is a a big help for those who need to get out in the middle of the night. Currently planning a longer trip with it as now retired.

This unusual tent is the same layout as the Laser Space 2 but with a larger sleeping inner and a heavier flysheet.

It's basically a single hoop which creates a 'fore and aft' ridge with 178cm standing room, inner is sewn-in-gs but main compartment is free of flooring - making it suitable for cycle campers I would think although for me it was for motorcycle touring.

First pitch, camping alone, the tent not previously unpacked, was easy in a slight breeze, single hoop 'ridge pole' goes in, fly and guys pegged to hold it(video available on the website)then two 'outrider poles' 90cm long hold up the other corners, more guys pegged, flysheet and inner fully pegged, job's a goodun. I did use a loose groundsheet with it.

Inner will hold two airbeds comfortably, no doubt the 3 would be sleepmats, this could work well for backpacking or cycling with two or three sharing the load, the inner is attached on purchase but can be released.

Inner has the usual pockets and a rear 'pop-hole' to assist through draught and a quick exit in case of urgent midnight need (!) two triangular mesh vents at head and foot as well as half door zipped mesh (standard in this type of tent and a good space to pop my xylume for evening glow although there is a central hook for such)

Enough room in the living area for chairs, and storage space between the inner and sides of the fly for backpacks or bike/motorbike panniers.

I will be out again in this shortly, and maybe will add photos.

I needed the height enough to stand (old bones)in a small and light tent, I have looked far and wide and most smaller tents are too low and those high enough too heavy, this one does it.

Manufacturer's Description

The Zephyros 3 Living is a lightweight tent you can stand up in. Weighing around 4kg, the amount of space available inside is remarkable, and the 1.78m of headroom makes it possible to change out of wet clothing in the porch whilst keeping the inner tent clean and dry. The porch is 3m2 and will accommodate folding chairs and rucksacks with ample space left for cooking or accessing the inner tent. A smaller "back door" makes it possible to exit the tent in the night without crossing other occupants, or can be used as a main entrance if the porch is required for storage of large items such as bikes. The small pack size and generous headroom make this ideal for weekend getaways and short breaks
